Medieval Music was a very important part in every day life in the Middle Ages. Some of the instruments they used were:

  • Drums- a percussion instrument used to keep a beat often.
  • Lyre- a Greek instrument almost like a small harp.
  • Lute- A stringed instrument used by plucking with fingers (or with a plectrum).
  • Flute- long and narrow instrument played by covering holes to get a tune.
  • Fiddle-similar to a wooden guitar strong.
  • Harp- a strummed instrument used for graceful songs.
  • Bag pipes-high pitched instrument that you need to use air to play.

There are certain times that people play there instruments like during a festival or at church. Festivals was the most common time to play instruments and dance to the music. sometimes the music players played for free but other time they played for money.



Interesting facts: Some interesting facts about medieval music are that sometimes why royalty was eating in the Great Hall they would listen to some music while eating. Many considered playing the whistle a very important part of playing any song or even very important in holidays.
